Before Delivery / Hospital#
- Is delayed cord clamping appropriate in our circumstances?
- What newborn blood, hearing, bilirubin, and heart screening do you perform?
- When and how is vitamin K given?
- How do you interpret newborn weight loss by age, delivery, and feeding method?
- What are our options for rooming in, nursery help, and bath timing?
- If choosing circumcision, what pain control is used?
- Is eye ointment required, and how does maternal infection testing affect the decision?
Newborn Illness and Safety#
- What temperature counts as fever at this age, how should we measure it, and whom do we call after hours?
- Which feeding, urine, breathing, color, alertness, or crying changes require urgent care?
- What current safe-sleep setup and room-sharing duration do you recommend?
- When exactly should we stop swaddling?
- What should we do if feeding the baby at night makes us likely to fall asleep?
Feeding#
- Is weight gain and hydration adequate? What trend matters next?
- Can you observe a full feed or refer us to qualified lactation support?
- When does pain, latch difficulty, or supply concern require evaluation?
- If supplementing, how much and how will we reassess?
- Which medications, alcohol guidance, or supplements matter for this parent and baby?
- Does this baby need vitamin D, iron, or another supplement?
Solids and Allergens#
- What signs of developmental readiness should we wait for?
- Does eczema, an existing allergy, prematurity, or family history change allergen timing?
- In what form, amount, and frequency should we introduce peanut, egg, dairy, and other allergens?
- Which reaction signs require a call, antihistamine, epinephrine, or emergency care?
- What are the current choking, honey, cow's milk, juice, and food-preparation rules?
Sleep#
- Is growth adequate to change night feeds?
- Could pain, breathing, reflux, eczema, medication, or another health issue be disrupting sleep?
- Is behavioral sleep training reasonable now, and which feeding/safety exceptions should remain?
- How much variation in naps and total sleep is normal at this age?
Development#
- How is the child tracking across motor, language, social, hearing, and other domains?
- Is the movement pattern symmetrical, and are tone/reflexes reassuring?
- Should we use a formal screen, hearing test, speech evaluation, or early intervention?
- What specific observation or date should trigger follow-up?
- For toilet training, does constipation, pain, withholding, or wetting need treatment?
Postpartum Parent#
- Which bleeding, pain, fever, headache, vision, swelling, breathing, or wound symptoms are urgent for me?
- Is my recovery appropriate for exercise, lifting, driving, and sex?
- Could pelvic-floor therapy help pain or incontinence?
- Can you screen for depression, anxiety, bipolar symptoms, intrusive thoughts, or psychosis?
- Which treatment and medication options are compatible with my feeding goals?
Family Planning#
- How do the prior pregnancy, birth, caesarean, preterm birth, or complications affect spacing advice?
- How do age, fertility history, medications, and recovery change the recommendation?
- What contraception fits the current health and feeding situation?
